Why this site exists
Portable power stations are expensive, the specs are confusing, and the review landscape is full of pages that rank products without ever plugging one in. A 2,000Wh unit can cost north of $1,500 — buyers deserve more than a recycled press release with affiliate links.
WattVerdict was built to be the resource we wished existed when we started shopping for our own home backup: honest, technical, and willing to say "this one is not worth it" out loud.
What we cover
We focus on a narrow niche so we can cover it well: portable power stations, portable solar panels, and solar generators (the combination of the two). Within that we publish across four use cases:
- Home backup — keeping the lights, fridge, internet, and medical equipment running when the grid drops.
- Camping — quiet, portable power for tent camping and base camps.
- RV & van life — reliable off-grid power for full-time travelers.
- Solar generators — power station + solar panel pairings for extended off-grid use.
How we work
Every rating on WattVerdict comes from the same testing process. We buy the units we test (no manufacturer-supplied loaners with strings attached), measure usable watt-hours rather than copying the figure on the box, and time real-world charge and discharge cycles. The full methodology is on the how we test page.
Rankings are decided by editors. We never accept payment for placement, and we routinely recommend against products that pay the highest commission when the data says so.
Who is behind WattVerdict
WattVerdict is run by a small editorial team focused exclusively on portable power. Author bios and credentials appear on every review, and every reviewer has hands-on time with the units they evaluate.
How we make money
WattVerdict is reader-supported. When you click an affiliate link on the site and buy something, we earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. We also participate in direct affiliate programs from brands like EcoFlow, Jackery, Bluetti, and Anker.
Affiliate income funds the gear we buy to test. It does not influence which products we recommend. See our affiliate disclosure and editorial policy for the full picture.
