Editorial policy

How we make editorial decisions, in writing, so you can hold us to them.

Last updated

Editorial independence

WattVerdict makes its own editorial decisions. No advertiser, affiliate partner, or manufacturer has any role in selecting the products we cover, the verdicts we publish, or the order of items in a ranking. We do not preview reviews to brands before publication.

What we cover and why

We cover portable power stations, portable solar panels, and the combinations of the two known as solar generators. We choose specific units to review based on three signals: search demand for the model, the manufacturer's relevance in the category, and reader questions. Commission rate is not one of the signals.

Sourcing

Reviews are based on hands-on time with the unit, bench measurements taken on the WattVerdict test rig, and observations during real-world use. Where we cite a specification — for example, lithium chemistry, cycle ratings, or warranty terms — we link to the manufacturer's official documentation. Where we cite outside research, we link to the primary source.

Conflict of interest

We buy the units we test at retail wherever possible. When a unit is not available for purchase at retail (early-production review samples, for example), we will say so in the review and identify the source of the unit.

Editorial staff are not permitted to hold stock in companies they review. Any personal relationship between a reviewer and a brand representative is disclosed in the review.

Corrections

If we publish something incorrect, we correct it. Corrections are made inline in the article with a clear note indicating what changed and when. We do not silently rewrite published work.

If you spot something that looks wrong, please tell us via the contact page.

Updates

Power station rankings can shift when firmware changes, a new revision ships, or the price moves enough to change the value equation. We re-review our published rankings on a rolling schedule and update the "Last updated" date when we do.

Where a review's verdict materially changes, we note the change at the top of the article along with the reason.

How we make money

WattVerdict is funded by affiliate commissions. See the affiliate disclosure for the details.
